Ash Wednesday in Córdoba, Spain

Last night my friend and I went for a walk through Córdoba, and we stumbled upon an Ash Wednesday procession. This lengthy ritual wound through several alleyways, and was followed by many people. In the procession, there were people carrying a statue of Jesus wearing a purple velvet robe. His hands were bound behind his back, and the robe was rather suggestively draped off his shoulders. It was unclear whether this was the intended statue dressing, or if the robe fell during the jostling of the march.
