Welcome to hippospit, a travel publication that seeks to document the absurd. My name is R Button, and I am the creator, editor, and curator of hippospit. Let me introduce you to the site layout:

Detectable Differences is a category devoted to cultural differences that are evident while living in foreign places.

The Influence of Technology contains stories about the (often humorous) impact of technology on travel.

No Place Like Home details experiences about adapting to temporary homes, and occasional interactions with weird AirBnB hosts.

Thank you for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy reading.

If you want to be a part of hippospit (I accept submissions from writers and artists), you can contact me at hippospitblog@gmail.com.

To be considered for publication, please send a jpeg, google doc, or pdf of your completed piece. The more artistic, unique, and insightful, the better. I don’t care where you’ve been – you can submit a piece about a night you spent in a Motel 6 while driving across Iowa to visit your aunt – so long as it’s unique and well-executed.

Also, you must have a PayPal account to be compensated for your work. Hippospit pays $15 per accepted submission (but we hope to increase this soon!).

Thank you, and I look forward to seeing your work!
